Response to: “Have you ever been refused a visa or permit, denied entry to, or ordered to leave Canada or any other country/territory?”
I'm not sure what happened. I was invited to give a Keynote at a conference in the Philippines in March 2018, and was supposed to do a stopover in Vancouver (NY - Vancouver - Manila). The organization didn't know I had to apply for an ETA for a stopover. When I arrived at the airport to check in, they made me apply for the ETA on my phone. The ticketing service folks told me it would take 15 min. Flying business class, I thought I would be taken care of and didn't doubt that there could be any issues. I ended up patiently waiting for almost 2 hours, and was still not approved. Finally, they told me I would miss my flight and were able to make a phone call saying that it sounded like I didn't get approved because I made a mistake on my application. It was months ago so I believe my mistake was that I put it 7/7/2018 as the expiry date of my previous passport, instead of 7/8/2018. I never heard back though. Anyway, I ended up taking another flight that didn't go through Canada and made it to my conference on time.
I am now flying to Canada again for 2 days to speak at a conference for women in technology on November 7. Thank you.
